Diamond wire saw is generally used in cutting of granite, marble, and concrete. Compared with flaming cutting, diamond wire saw have the following advantages when used in granite mining.
1. Diamond wire saw can adapt to a broad range of mines, while flame cutting simply applies to granite mines that contain high content of quartz with less fracture.
2. Good performance and high efficiency. Firstly, diamond wire saw can reach deeper mining depth of 10m to 20m or even deeper, while the mining depth of flame cutting is only within 10m. Secondly, diamond wire saws have a faster cutting speed of 3m2 to 4m2 , which is twice or three times the cutting speed of flame cutting.
3. Diamond wire saws are capable of cutting in all directions, including perpendicular cutting, horizontal cutting and slope cutting(profiling), while flame cutting is only applicable to perpendicular cutting.
4. High yield and low comprehensive costs. Since the section of diamond wire saws is flat that it does no harm to granite rough blocks. What’s more, the saw kerf is as narrow as 11mm, so it is not likely to produce waste resources. While the section of flame cutting is rough, and the saw kerf is about 100mm to 300mm, a large quantity of resources are waste. Besides that, the mining cost is higher.
5. Safe and environmental friendly. Diamond wire saw mining is free from noise and dust. it has a low demand for intensity involved in labor.
Therefore, Diamond wire saw in granite mining has both remarkable economic benefits and social benefits, especially when the industry is confronted with increasing resource shortage problems and soaring oil price. However, there are factors that constraint the manufacture and application of diamond wire saws. For example, the technology for diamond wire saw mining is high, and the system is easy to be damaged. Damage in diamond wire may result in failure of the entire tool, whose lifespan will be shortened simultaneously. This is of great influence to diamond wire saw manufacture.
